I continue to grow the breadth and depth of my knowledge in the Cannabis space, all the while meeting new and interesting people or catching up with old friends, this time at the MJBizCon 2022. The Black Women in Cannabis attendees were high-energy; meeting Eric Canori for an autograph was a kick; listening to professionals in the cannabis business space from Coast to Coast yielded great connections.
METRC has become a central part of the reporting system at the state level. I found the METRC booth and had a very good discussion with a rep who was specifically involved with RFID tags. I have been very concerned about a more complete way of managing, controlling, and counting inventory. I was introduced to four METRC integrators using the RFID information contained within the state-issued “METRC tags.”
My next stop was to see each of the integrators at their booths.
- Outlaw Technology has a focus on cultivation plants and then package tags. Solid product with several years in the cannabis industry.
- GeoShepard focuses on counting and weighing plants in the cultivation phase.
- Canix is an ERP program that has inventory tracking using RFID as a part of it. This could be interesting, but I was only looking to work on inventory.
- StashStock calls itself a seed-to-sale program. I wanted to focus on just selling at either distro or retail levels. It did really well at this.
I stopped by the Cova and Blaze POS software booths to say hello. I was pleased to see demos of their products. I have clients using both packages; I saw some features that appeared to be new which I will pass along to them.
As a provider of ancillary services in accounting and C-suite consulting for many years now, these conferences remind me that we’ve only seen the tip of the [legal cannabis business] iceberg. I’m pleased to be one of those above the water line!
MJBizCon has it right when they say, “MJBizCon is where over 35,000 cannabis executives from around the world unite to get industry deals done, hear the latest industry trends and insights into the current political landscape, source the right solution providers, and gain knowledge from leaders in the industry who have made mistakes and wins.”
I highly recommend setting aside November 28 – December 1 for the MJBizCon 2023 event.
